I am guessing, but here’s what I would think you might want to do:
    1. Take a certificate or curriculum set for a trade like an electrician might do. If you have two years of college in which you take basic mathematics (you should know algebra, geometry, and trigonometry with some proficiency) and basic physics (mechanics, electromagnetism, optics), you will become very valuable. If you take some “engineering” courses related to use of circuits, circuit analysis, and computers, that too will help you tremendously. Look at junior/community college programs. You should talk to one of their academic advisors; don’t rely on the advice of just one person. Taking a course and completing it successfully is NEVER A WASTE OF TIME.
    2. After completing the minimum education requirements (for your own good), you should try to get a job with the manufacturer or distributor of the equipment. You will get “factory training” hopefully, but if not, don’t worry. Your own talent and knowledge can often allow you to be solve problems. The best technicians are problem solvers. Try to be one. Work at it. Challenging yourself with problems in your leisure time makes you a true solver when you are on the clock.
