ultrasound careers?

I am a young, hispanic female. trying to pursue a career in ultrasound, Im going into my second yr and im just doing my pre-requisites before applying for the program but i hear horror stories about entering the program. It a extremely competetive degree and not everyone gets into the program only 40 people!! and you must be top 4.0 gpa That discouraging. but aside from that my biggest problem is I dont even know why I chose to get into this career. I would think that someone who is in college would have atleast one good reason why there are studying what there are studying , you ask me and all I can come up with is the salary they earn. I truly think my calling is otherwise, maybe something like Social work, but they pay nothing and must have tons of degrees and its ridiculous, thats why I decided to do the Ultrasound thing. I would like input on anyone’s opinion on what should I do, is, and if you live in MA even better,. I sometimes feel like Im wasting my time studying this. Thanks

If you don’t have a job you like, you will be miserable every day, and the good salary will not make up for it. Do some more soul-searching.

Social work does not pay as bad as those outside the profession say. A BSW will generally make 20-40K and an MSW will make 30-60K right out of school.

You can find accredited BSW programs at http://www.cswe.org – if you do a BSW you can apply for advanced standing and do your MSW in one year. As a hispanic female you will likely be able to find many scholarships to support your studies.
