Hi, I was hoping to get the opinions of some people about what my best option would be in regards to academics…

Currently, I’m in New York studying at St. John’s University as an accounting major with scholarships paying most of it… I really like New York and I really like my major but i feel like i’m out of place and heading down the wrong path…

I’ve lived in new york for about a month but am from LA, california and tend to get homesick. Instead of pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or master’s degree) i’ve thought about going to community college back in cali to first get my EMT license then continue that path to become a radiology tech. I’ve volunteered for years in an ER and a radiology department of a hospital and loved the atmospere, the jobs of EMTs and x-ray techs, as well as the work they had…

Should i drop this semester and enroll in community college or stick with the bachelors degree (i’ll walk out with ,000 in debt after 4 years)? I’m concerned people will thinking i’m just trying to wimp out of my major… how should i respond to this?

Thanks!!

I heard you can get a 12 month certification from their to become a radiation therapists? is it really worth going another 12 months of school? tha reason is because i live in Long beach ca with my parents and the only school offering this 12 month certification is city of hope school in duarte which is like 40 miles away. What should i do? i dont want to drive 40 miles everyday or move and have to pay rent unless its really worth it. of course when i get married ill move out but not yet. do you think an x-ray tech is a reasonable job with a good pay? what should i do? thanks

I’m shooting for a rad-tech program which would give me an Associates of APP Science, but the program is extremely difficult to get into because of the number of applicants for the program. I only have 3 B’s and 9 A’s on my transcripts but those 3 B’s are causing me not to get into the program. I can retake the courses and wait another year to get into the program, but then I’m looking at almost 4-5 years just to get an associates degree? (once in the program it’s 2 years w/ clinicals) -OR- There is a certificate program I could get into this summer (2 yrs also) that is accredited by ARRT, that would get my radiology training started this year. SO-which is better, certificate or an associates degree? Thanks!

I had just recently thought about being an X-ray technologist, but I am still not sure. I have read that the average salary is something like 56,000 a year. I guess my questions go out to anyone who is an X-ray tech, what is it like? do you enjoy it? is it worth the money? was the schooling and training really difficult? do you make more money if you move on to also be an MRI or CT specialist? anything else you would like to inform me about the field I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!

I am a limited license x-ray tech and I work in a small medical office in tennessee. I am the only full time x-ray tech. There is a bone density tech but he only works on monday and tuesday. So therefore I am forced to do the bone density tests on the other days and I am not certified to do so. I do not agree with this but i am afraid I could lose my job if I refuse to do the bone densities. I have no desire to do bone densities and do not want to go get certified in this. What will happen if the state walks in and I am performing a bone density test? Can I perform them because I am an x-ray tech or is it illegal? And where can I find a list of all the laws pertaining to Radiology for the state of tennessee because I have searched the internet everywhere and can not find the laws anywhere.
