i know theyre called radiologic technologists but umm anyways im about to earn my AA degree in radiology. I heard you can get a 12 month certification from their to become a radiation therapists? is it really worth going another 12 months of school? tha reason is because i live in Long beach ca with my parents and the only school offering this 12 month certification is city of hope school in duarte which is like 40 miles away. What should i do? i dont want to drive 40 miles everyday or move and have to pay rent unless its really worth it. of course when i get married ill move out but not yet. do you think an x-ray tech is a reasonable job with a good pay? what should i do? thanks

For now, I’d like to get started earning a cert for radiology, so that upon getting out I can find a job as an assistant while I’m going to school for hygiene.

Is there a test I can study for or do I need a hands-on course to get qualified? I’ve searched around some on the internet but would prefer someone with experience explaining the process to me.

Ok, lemme start telling you what I know and what i don’t understand.
A radiology technician takes x-rays and can also learn how to do MRI and CTs. From my point of view this could be a good career option cause one specializes in differents sectors so that will always have a job. Either doing CTs, MRIs, or xrays. But, in city college take 36 months to become a radiology technician, and according to bls.com his salary would be lower than a radiation therapist.

Radiation Therapist specializes in using a defined amount of radiation to help ppl diagnosed with cancer. TArgeting the zone would shrink or stop the growth of the cancer (if all goes well). This sounds better to me cause It helps the needy and is very motivating. But career-wise will have it’s limitations in finding jobs because it targets ‘only’ ppl with cancer.
In the city college it takes 27 months to get an A.S degree and ending up having an higher salary than the radiology technician…which does not makes sense to me.

If you were to advice me what route to take, assuming I would enjoy doing any of them to help ppl getting better, what would you recommend me?
Thanks in advance
Lucy
Thanks xxxrayguy. 65ks is more than enough for me. Are there jobs available out there or is hard to find one?

1. How do you define radiation therapy? What exactly do you do?

2. Why did you choose this as a career?

3. What school did you attend? What classes did you take? Hard? …?

4. Where do you work?

5. How hard to find a job?

6. Salary? … 1st year??? I know its personal but it’s really helpful for me to know.

7. Any regrets?

8. Downside of this career?

Anything else?

9. Oh… and would you consider it a good field for someone who is going into pre-med and doesn’t want to major in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry…?
