OK, this is about Health Care recruiting..

Most MD/DO/Ph.D. (Psych.) come in as O-3, with the exception of Board Certified Specialists in certain critical medical specialties, who usually get O-4.

My question is…what specialties are most likely to get O-4 for Board Certification? My usual list is Surgery, Radiology, Ortho., Neuro. Are there any other specialties that usually get O-4?

Also, I know that promotions for health professionals in the USAF is slow, but what about the other services? For example, what is the usual time to grade for promotion from O-3 to O-4?

Thanks.
ARMY CHEM: Yeah, Oral Surgeons (DDS/DMD) are in huge demand. O-5 is usually reserved for Cardiac/Thoracic guys. That is the highest initial rank I have ever heard of for a Dentist. The sun must truly shine out his ***. LOL

The reason I ask is that wifey-poo talked to a USAF Med recruiter…and they came back with an O-4 offer, which she turned down. She was amazed that they offered her Major, but she is certified for both Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry…maybe they have a lot of kids in uniform now.

I told her that promotions were few and far between for us Med types. I was up for O-4 and got it, but my Medical Discharge stuff was in the works before “pin-on” day. I still have the unopened Golden Oaks in my desk. That one really hurt me.
EDIT FOR ARMY CHEM: Nah, she changed her mind…plus, I ain’t leaving Paradise. LOL I might change my mind after another typhoon though. LOLOL Good luck, Major…I am out for the duration…too much BS going down on these boards lately. Too many trolls, too many wives, too many tools. You are one of the good peeps here…keep up the good fight.

This year I am going to a 2 year junior college for radiologic technology and then transferring to CSULB to finish for a BS in radiologic technology (I believe? please correct me if I’m wrong) now my question is once I have completed the CSULB and I wish to have other licenses in a different area of radiologic technology such as MRI or CT, how long would it take in order to get those licenses?

I was recently laid off during a Corporate-wide layoff for a Forbes 100 retail company after 5 years of service. This layoff absolutely destroyed me because I didn’t see any way that my department could manage without me.

Anyways, this has led me to want to start a NEW career and get into something more stable and the Medical Industry has great opportunities. I would like to start an MRI program but I have noticed that there are NO accredited MRI schools in Southern California. I went to an Open House for West Coast Ultrasound today and learned that their MRI program is 9 months with 1000 unpaid hours of externship required after the 9 month program.

Does anyone know if I am required to work as an entry-level MRI tech for one full year BEFORE I can take the certification exam with the ARMRIT? Or should I be able to sit for the ARMRIT exam immediately upon graduation from my ,000 MRI program?

Thank you,
Lizzie,

You do not first have to be an RT in order to become a MRI Tech anymore. The rules changed recently. Now you can just focus on MRI as a specialty and do not have to crosstrain. This means someone wanting to become an MRI tech does not have to first take 2yrs of Radiology training.
