I am enrolling in an adult class at a vocational/technical high school called health related technology. It is a program offering training in occupational therapy, radiology, physical therapy, and holistic therapy. Supposedly, after I complete the program, I will be eligible for an aide position. I am mostly interested in the radiology part, but will I realistically be qualified for a technician job? There is a certification test at the end of the program that I have to take, does this make me eligible? I am most likely going to enroll in the associates program at my local college after I am done, but I would like to get out into the job force asap. (and no, I cannot just go to the college, I am receiving a grant to go to this specific school) I am just trying to seek some clear answers. It seems to me it goes like this… training-certification test-aide job-associates degree-radiography job. Is this close?
The school I plan on attending is called berks career and technology center and the program is health related technology. After, I plan on going to montgomery county community college, but I was hoping I would be able to start employment after going to berks.

I am 26 years old and already a chronic pain patient. I tore my ACL and cartiladge (right knee) and had it reconstructed when I was 13. Never felt the same since the surgery but played sports and was always active throughout my teen years.
Got a physical job as a Propane Service/Installation Technician at age 20. Had a left knee arthroscopy for a torn meniscus 2 years later at age 22. Both knees were always hurting but I fought through it and had a nice career for myself making good money.
I suffered from back pain as well around 23, then the back pain started getting worse around 24 with sciatica occasionally but with alot of numbness and tingling. Ignored it till it finally got bad enough, talked to my PCP to warrant MRI’s. They found severe facet arthritis, degenerative disc disease and bulging of L4-L5 and L5-S1 that contacted the S1 nerve root. This definately showed why I had so much pain and neuropathy on my right side. I began physical therapy and 3 months of that did nothing.
About 10 months ago, I received 3 cortisone injections, non of which did anything. The doctor then recommended a Medial Branch Block to see where exactly the source of pain is coming from but had to wait because I just had 3 injections. The pain got worse and I had to stop working and have been out of work for about 6 months. I lost my insurance during this time because I was terminated. So I began seeing a chiropractor (much cheaper than any other doctor) who discovered I have a crooked pelvis, right leg is 1/2 inch shorter than the left. I have been going there for a little over 2 months for manipulation to try and straighten me out.
To be honest I am now worse off than I ever have been, my right leg and foot throbs and is numb/tingley, lower back is constantly hurting, I don’t know what to do anymore. Also, I do not qualify for Medicaid or state help, but I did qualify for financial assistance at my local hospital but of course no pain management center is affiliated with any hospital near me.
I know I have thrown so much out there with quite a timeline and info, but any info is greatly appreciated. Could all my problems stem from that ACL recon when I was young, causing everything to not be aligned properly? I know the physical job didn’t help but if I had normal structure maybe it would never had happened?
I wrote this in a frenzy, so please excuse grammar and some key things I left out. There are too many details to remember. I also had a right knee arthroscopy 6 months ago as well with PT completed for that but still in pain. My right foot swells and I limp out of bed every morning. I am on LTD now so I can afford a visit or two per month barely to practices outside the hospitals system. Sleeping has become a task interrupted by back pain, I can’t even sleep in my bed anymore. Also I have a referral for physical therapy and a pain management appt. next week, they are waiting on a urine test. Again, thanks in advance for your responses!

I’ve had a sudden change of heart and want to become a performance major. Unfortunately, I know this is a financially risky degree, but the passion that I have for cello is starting to overshadow that. So, I was thinking if I get a quick certificate job like Radiology Technician (Which would give me about 40-45k/yr reliable job)
Then continue to study theory and cello with a professor while I get that certificate. Afterwards getting my performance major degree.

Would this make me too old to really get a good performance major experience?

Which factor, in your opinion, is the most important when it comes to choosing a major? Is it the structure of the major, the opportunities for graduate school, the career salary, your interest in the subject, or is it something else? I am having a very difficult time deciding between two majors, Radiation Therapy and Biomedical Engineering. I am interested in both. I love science, which is a significant part of both majors, though Biomedical Engineering has a little more science. However, I also love interacting with people, and Radiation Therapy contains more interpersonal work than Biomedical Engineering. So basically, I will be happy doing either of these jobs. However, there are other factors which are influencing my decision, and this is causing my indecision. I like Radiation Therapy because it is more of a program than a traditional major. You need 50 credit hours worth of prereqs, which I already have, and then you apply to the program. Because of my GPA, and more importantly, my prereq GPA, my academic advisor said she is 99% certain I will get accepted. The professional core is very structured and goes by quickly. You have class from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, for 22 months straight, and then you are done. I like this more than the structure of Biomedical Engineering, because I do not have many of the classes in the major and will be in school for at least another 3 years. However, I am also taking graduate school into consideration. Biomedical Engineering is better in this area. Biomedical Engineering pretty much contains the entire pre-med and pre-physical therapy curriculum in the major, so I would not have to take additional classes to apply for these programs, which I may want to. Biomedical Engineering also has graduate degrees, whereas Radiation Therapy does not. The salaries pretty close. Radiation Therapists make an average of ,000 a year, and Biomedical Engineers make an average of ,000 a year. So basically what I am asking is, if you are trying to decide between two majors that you would equally enjoy and with near equal pay, what would be next most important factor? Would you rather get a degree quickly and get right out on the workforce, or would you want a degree with good opportunities for graduate school? I know this is long, and I thank you for staying with me.
