im 15 and a sophmore in high school and i really want to become an ultra sound technician and i want to know whats it like. in college are the classes hard? is the job hard? do you like your job? how much do you get paid? what are you patients like? and do you have any interesting stories about your job?

If I’m being followed by an RE, do I need to see an OB?

I know, odd question. To give a little background: My GYN dropped her OB license at the beginning of the year. (Boo! She was fabulous!) She was still helping me and seeing me during my TTC, but referred me to an IVF clinic because of my PCOS.

Well, now I’m pregnant. (YAY!!) I had my first hCG done on Monday and a follow up yesterday. I have to schedule an ultrasound with the IVF clinic for six weeks so they can hear a heartbeat. I know the clinic will be following me for most likely the entire first trimester.

Do I need an additional following of an OB? I would need to call a new office and make an appointment. I already know where I’ll be going. It’s a simple matter of my extreme dislike of OB/GYN doctors (and exams) in general that is keeping me from calling.

So…do I need to call an OB? It’s probably best they are on top of things from the beginning, right?

(I have called my IVF doctor and left a message for a call back, but haven’t heard yet…)

What is being an x-ray technologist like?

I am about to be a senior in high school and I have absolutely no idea what I want to do for my career, and the pressure is building up to figure something out. I had just recently thought about being an X-ray technologist, but I am still not sure. I have read that the average salary is something like 56,000 a year. I guess my questions go out to anyone who is an X-ray tech, what is it like? do you enjoy it? is it worth the money? was the schooling and training really difficult? do you make more money if you move on to also be an MRI or CT specialist? anything else you would like to inform me about the field I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!

I have reviewed articles about being a rRadiology Technician from the OSHA site. Im looking for additional opinions from anyone out there already in this field of work. My plan would be to become a Radiology Tech and go for the additional year to finally become a Diagnostic Sonographer. Can anyone out the offer any additional info?

Practicing Ultrasound Sonographers: What are the pros and cons of being a diagnostic ultrasound sonographer?

I have a 4 year college degree and have been working in the business world for over a decade, but I do not find it rewarding. (In fact, I hate desk jobs.) I love helping people and learning about medical/health issues. I am considering going back to school for ultrasound sonography. What are the pros and cons of being a sonographer? Are there plenty of jobs? How easy is it to find a job upon becoming licensed? How hard is the program; including the math and science classes? (I was a liberal arts major so I haven’t taken many math or science classes.) Is it a physically demanding job (is there a lot of heavy lifting involved)? Do you enjoy your job and would you recommend it to someone else? Some people first become a radiology tech then become a sonographer. Others, go right for the sonography program (I could go right for sonography since I have a B.A. already.) Which route would you recommend? Any help or inside information would be most appreciated. Thank you so much!
