Going for an MRI.
How do docs detect cause. How do they detect if it is congenital or not?
If workmans comp doesnt cover it will my health insurance cover it?
My own doctor will not even chat with me on the phone since it happened on the job.
I am medicated and still in pain. I am a certified veterinary technician and work with animals. I need to be back in action. I fear what my future holds. Will I be able to wrestle with the pooches again?
As I said my own doc wont chat with me so here I am at Yahoo A!

I am 26 years old and already a chronic pain patient. I tore my ACL and cartiladge (right knee) and had it reconstructed when I was 13. Never felt the same since the surgery but played sports and was always active throughout my teen years.
Got a physical job as a Propane Service/Installation Technician at age 20. Had a left knee arthroscopy for a torn meniscus 2 years later at age 22. Both knees were always hurting but I fought through it and had a nice career for myself making good money.
I suffered from back pain as well around 23, then the back pain started getting worse around 24 with sciatica occasionally but with alot of numbness and tingling. Ignored it till it finally got bad enough, talked to my PCP to warrant MRI’s. They found severe facet arthritis, degenerative disc disease and bulging of L4-L5 and L5-S1 that contacted the S1 nerve root. This definately showed why I had so much pain and neuropathy on my right side. I began physical therapy and 3 months of that did nothing.
About 10 months ago, I received 3 cortisone injections, non of which did anything. The doctor then recommended a Medial Branch Block to see where exactly the source of pain is coming from but had to wait because I just had 3 injections. The pain got worse and I had to stop working and have been out of work for about 6 months. I lost my insurance during this time because I was terminated. So I began seeing a chiropractor (much cheaper than any other doctor) who discovered I have a crooked pelvis, right leg is 1/2 inch shorter than the left. I have been going there for a little over 2 months for manipulation to try and straighten me out.
To be honest I am now worse off than I ever have been, my right leg and foot throbs and is numb/tingley, lower back is constantly hurting, I don’t know what to do anymore. Also, I do not qualify for Medicaid or state help, but I did qualify for financial assistance at my local hospital but of course no pain management center is affiliated with any hospital near me.
I know I have thrown so much out there with quite a timeline and info, but any info is greatly appreciated. Could all my problems stem from that ACL recon when I was young, causing everything to not be aligned properly? I know the physical job didn’t help but if I had normal structure maybe it would never had happened?
I wrote this in a frenzy, so please excuse grammar and some key things I left out. There are too many details to remember. I also had a right knee arthroscopy 6 months ago as well with PT completed for that but still in pain. My right foot swells and I limp out of bed every morning. I am on LTD now so I can afford a visit or two per month barely to practices outside the hospitals system. Sleeping has become a task interrupted by back pain, I can’t even sleep in my bed anymore. Also I have a referral for physical therapy and a pain management appt. next week, they are waiting on a urine test. Again, thanks in advance for your responses!

i am 21 years old and am an active automotive technician.

ive been repairing and diagnosing vehicles since i was about 14.

unfortuanetly i think i might have done something to my back

it started as a stiffness and now has progressed to constant pain and swelling in my back. i am still working because i love what i do and leaving my job or doing something else really isnt an option for me as i have taken all my certifications and come way too far in this field.

its hard to describe the pain or the exact location. i know for a fact its not a muscle because i can feel it in my spine. im constantly trying to crack my back or stretch it to get any kind of relief but it is only temporary or makes it worse… its not exactly lower back. but its not in the middle either. just alittle lower than the middle of my back.

my only problem is that i do not currently have health insurance. so an mri is kinda out of the question atleast for about 3 more months until my health insurance is back.

unfortuanetly this pain is awful and is constantly making my days harder. it seems to be getting worse with time.

sleep is a constant struggle as i wake up many times a night to either get up and stretch or to change positions.

the pain first started about a year or so ago. doctor originally thought it was a muscle. gave me every muscle relaxer he could think of. physical therapy also and none of it helped.

the only thing that helped my pain was either hydrocodone or oxycodone. i had a bottle of 15 hydrocodone 5mg/500′s from an e.r. visit and i was taking halves and it lasted me almost a month. didnt exactly take the pain away but helped atleast for a couple hours.

i was gonna goto my doctor and pay myself. i want to try to explain to him that i need something for pain. just until i get health insurance back and i can get an mri and get it taken care of for real, not just covered up by pills.

my only fear is, is that im only 21 yrs old and i dont know if my doctor will be comfortable with prescribing me hydrocodone or oxycodone due to fear of abuse or addiction, due to all the people taking advantage of their doctors or faking or whatever pathetic things people do for drugs now.

i have no history of drug or alchohol dependance and ive had the same family doctor since i was 10 yrs old. does anybody have any suggestions for me?

work and sleep are the worst times for me. its almost unbearable at times. it would be a godsend to have something to control my pain. atleast temporarily till i can get this problem fixed.

Alright here is my story. I am 30 years old and have had 2 seizures in my entire life. The first one came back in 2007 while I was hospitalized for 23 straight days with pancreatitis. The pancreatites was a direct result of consuming too much alcohol over a period of time. I have now been alcohol free for 34 months. To treat pancreatitis you are denied any food or water until the right blood levels are achieved. The only form of nutrition you get is through an IV. During my stay (on my 3rd day in) I had a seizure. It was never reported to the DMV because the Doctors felt it was from withdrawal of alcohol and or an allergic reaction to a medication give via IV. Immediately after given the medication, I turned bright red, got the worst headache of my entire life, my hands were shaky like I had just had an entire pot of coffee. In either event, so many tests were ordered. Blood draws, Spinal Tap, MRI, Cat Scan and an EEG. The EEG was given 2 days after the seizure (which I have read is the absolute wrong time to give it). The EEG came back with a slight abnormality, but because everything else was perfect and there is no family history and it was the first one I ever had, the EEG wasn’t compelling enough. I was given tegretol to take 2 times a day for 6 months. After 6 months of the tegretol, I was told I could stop taking it and I did stop. I had no seizures for while on the medication and for a period of 28 months after, never loosing my license either since it wasn’t reported.

Apparently seizures can be provoked by stress, poor eating habits and a million other things. I had this seizure while driving, lost control of the vehicle and hit a house. It didn’t do much damage at all and I guess that’s besides the point. I had so much stress that day and my seizure happened right after opening some mail that said I had to testify against a Doctor who had (lets just say he was a male and was at some part of my body for a while). The saying when it rains it pours was never so true then it was that day 10 weeks ago. I went to the Doctor the morning after it. This one was extremely different then the one 34 months ago, I remembered things right away, I didn’t bite my tongue, my body wasn’t shaking and a I had no muscle fatigue.

Once again I went through the battery of tests and everyone of them came back absolutely perfect. As a precautionary measure the neurologist put me on an Anti-Seizure med (Lamictal). I have not came close to having another seizure after the last one. Another blood draw was just done on Thursday, once again every level of anything in my body came back perfect and the Lamictal level is right where it needs to be. I have NO drugs in my system, I just don’t do them (plus the police tested me and so did the Doctor. I’m not even sure the Doctor reported it, but the police did. The DMV sent me a letter stating that my license was suspended (NOT REVOKED) until I can get a hearing, in which I get asked a bunch of questions and turn in the info from the Doctor.

The basics to all this is. 2 seizures in my entire life the firs because of an allergic reaction or from alcohol detox (I’ve never got a DUI) which wasn’t ever reported. The second one may have been provoked and was nothing like the first one. All my test came back great and I am also on a medication for it as a precaution.

Any answers, advice or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

I am thinking about going back to school in the fall to begin training for a new career in the medical/healthcare field. Can anyone please give me some info on different options (nurse, x-ray tech, mri tech, etc, etc, etc) and what they involve and what they pay? I am not sure exactly what field I would like to get into and what is involved with each field. I am also wondering what has the best job outlook and what pay scale to expect for different things. Thanks!
