Radiography Or Radiation Therapy?
Over the past 2 years, I have thought about enrolling in a Rad Tech program. I currently have a bachelors degree in Marketing Comm. and have not found much enjoyment in it. I’ve job shadowed at the local hospital in the radiology dept. and LOVED IT! I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to which field I should pursue (Rad. Tech vs. Radiation Therapy). Does one require more education than the other? Are more jobs avail. for one over the other? Is a Radiation Therapist a ‘step’ above a Rad. Tech? (job description-wise)
I live in central IL and have a few options w/ school including hospital programs, but unfortunately, I am 26 and as a student I will still have bills to pay and I’m finding financial aid difficult to obtain.
I really appreciate your feedback! :O)

Radiation therapists make a lot more money, and radiographers are considered the lowest on the radiology totem pole. You can do each in 2 years, after prereqs. No one can tell you which one is best for you…. some people absolutely love x-ray. Personally, I wish I had gone into radiation therapy because it makes more money and is less physically demanding. As a radiographer, you can go on to do CT, MRI, interventional, and mammography. More info: https://www.asrt.org/content/aboutthepro…

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search ‘radiographic technologists’, ‘radiation therapists’ or such.
Please note that a person may need to have taken ‘technical physics’ for radiography (and perhaps radiation therapy as well).
