Well today I had to go in for an observation in a doc. office for a MA job and it was between me and this other girl who in the end decided on hiring her . Well we both dont have degrees.. it was just general work for a doctor. But I just feel horrible because they picked her over me. I am going to school for radiology and they did x-rays on ppl’s feet and stuff. The other girl was a pre-med student and had had a little experience “watching” surgeries in high school in a program they had. I just dont think that it was really fair. They told me that they hired her because she had more medical experience than me. I wore scrubs and everything, I was early to get there and the other girl was late. I just dont understand. Do you REALLY think that things happen for a reason and that maybe that job really wasn’t for me and wouldn’t have worked out?

What do you think about this?!?
Ok I had an observation the other day for a position at a doctors office and it was between me and this other girl who got hired. Well they hired her in the end only because they said she had more medical experience what they call it b/c it was only a high school program that she went to and “observed” surgeries in he hospital. that is NOT experience!!!! i think it is BS! i had scrubs, she didnt. I was early, she was late! and they still picked her! also, she goes to a university for pre-med and they want to focus on school schedule AROUND work schedule. I dont think she will be able to do it b/c its like from 8-12 two days of the week and then 8-5pm the other 2 days. And in medical usually the only classes offered at a school are in 2’s, meaning there aren’t many hours of the day you can pick from so she wouldnt be able to take them. Im going to school part time for radiology and they did xrays there. Do you think that girl will end up quitting???? what do you think about this?

3. How do you get a position at a hospital? Do you go in and apply in hopes that they’re hiring, or do you look for ‘now hiring’ ads (if so, where)?
4. Do you handle the X-ray, MRI, and CAT scan machines, or just one or the other?
5. Are the techs required to wear scrubs?
Thank you all so much!! I’ve been looking into radiology tech for a while now, but I need to talk to some real people who know what they’re talking about!

My daughter is graduating high school in a couple of months. She wants to be a Radiology Technician. There are two year programs out there to get an Associate degree. The Rad Tech program nearest us sounds like a good program, she would be accepted automatically, but the tuition is $12,000.00 a year(24 month program). Does that sound normal? That does include tuition, books, and scrubs. We have qualified for a Fed Grant of 4K, and that amount would just about cover the cost of a year in a 4 year university(per year), but that is a 4 year, and then have to get accepted into a Rad Tech program. Any advice?

It is asked in the Baylor University @ Dallas to provide prior health related (radiology) job experience to apply for the radiology program there. I’m not sure if I want to apply for that one, or one at Midwestern State University, or the one at Brookhaven of the Dallas Community College System. About 6 months is recommended and I have never worked in the health field. I don’t plan on applying in those programs until about 1.5 to 2 years from now, so I have plenty of time to look over my options. But since I am considering them, I want to know what would be a good way to get my foot through the door in that health field. I have seen people in scrubs at school, and I always that that in order to get a job at a hospital or clinic you have to first be certified. I’m wondering what I should attempt to do. There is a local hosp. in 15 miles.
Right now, I’m a full-time college student @ Navarro, a local community college majored in Pre-Med.
Any help or advice is appreciated, Thanks.

Anybody know a good website? Laundry pins leave enormous holes in ther scrubs and the regular sewing ones are a bit too flimsy. And untrustworthy. I work in Radiology and prefer to put my rings back on when done in surgery. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
