Mri School In Ca?
Does anyone know if employers require you to be a Radiology Technician in order to work as a MRI Technician. I have forund 4 schools in California that specialize specifically in MRI but I have been told by people that I must work as a Radiology Tech first. I’m not sure but if that is true I would like to know before I spend $22,000 for MRI school.

I work as an imaging technologist for a free standing imaging center in Northern California. We have received a few resumes from people who are not RTs, but who have completed MRI training. My supervisors threw those resumes straight in the trash. It will be hard to find a job, when all you can do is MRI scanning. A hospital or imaging center is more likely to hire a person who can do x-ray, mammograms, CT scans and/or ultrasound, in addition to MRIs. Why would an employer want to hire someone who is limited, when there are so many RTs out there who can do MRIs and more? I wouldn’t waste my money on a program such as the one you are describing. I think you will be disappointed with the outcome.

ARRT.org and JRCERT.org do not list any accredited MRI programs in California, so I would be careful.
