Job Description For An Ultrasound Tech?

I am working on a writing assignment for my technical writing class in which I have to write about the written communication that my profession requires. I am studying to be an ultrasound tech, and every time I try to speak with a tech, there isn’t one available(with a patient, not in the office, etc.). My assignment is due soon, and I’m afriad that I will run out of time! Does anyone know what kinds of written communication an ultrasound tech position requires?

    I don’t know if this exactly answers yor question, as I don’t know the details of the assignment, but I’m a sonographer in Australia. On an individual exam level, the first point of written communication is the referral, requesting the the area to be scanned and stating why. Often medical abbreviations are used that you are expected to understand, such as LFT for liver function test. Sometimes the patient will bring previous films and accompanying reports which have to be read so you know what has been seen previously and when, and these use medical terminology to describe the findings. After performing the scan the sonographer is often required to produce a written worksheet or report which is given to the doctor, in which you describe your findings and note down measurements, and in these usually both medical terminology, and phrases specific to ultrasound (such as hypoechoic) are used.

    You have to stand next to expectant moms and dads who are expecting a baby in 8 weeks. And they are scared that there is something wrong and you will be the first to know about it. And they will need for you to tell them…. except the problem for you is that they really don’t want to hear any bad news. So most “techs” say “Excuse me while i get the doctor”. Your communication can save them from those anxious moments..
