I’d Like To Joing The Air Force As An Ultrasound Tech, Do You Have To Be A Radiology Tech First?
I heard that you could only join the air force as a radiology tech, be on the job for 2-3 years, then you could train in ultrasound. is this true?

They both fall under diagnostic imaging. You’re required to have experience as a radiology tech first. That would probably take at least a year after tech school. So that’s probably right.http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforcee…
At our local community college if you want to get an advanced certificate in sonography you have to already have an associates in an allied health field. So that would essentially be the same thing.

Best advice is speak to a recruiter and ask, specifically, about what you want to do. He or she should then be able to show you exactly what you need to do in order to apply for that job.
Interestingly, several years ago, radiology tech was a feeder AFSC (Air Force specialty code) for several other “jobs”. For one example, nuclear medicine was a lateral transfer from radiology tech–but that was over 20 years ago. I’ve been retired for over 10 years now!

I’m trying to remember, I’m a medic in the air force and I believe you train as a radiology tech but you also learn different specialties (x-ray, ultrasound, ct scan). If you go to the air force website they have a live chat with recruiters I would chat with them. Good Luck
