Someone I know continued on and went to grad school in DC in International Relations. I recommend going to school in that area if you are interested in government because you have everything from Congress, to the FBI, CIA, NSA, State Department, and Pentagon you could all intern at and see what you truly want to do. Why don’t you contact local State or Federal representatives and see if they have some internships that you could do?
