In fact there are many jobs for qualified people around the the U.S. with good opportunities at centers such as MGH (Harvard) or in California in the many large practices out there.
You no longer require a B.S. to write the boards. They will move back to an Associates Degree requirement soon. A certificate program is usually for someone with a diagnostic degree. So if you are looking to clarify details as they are listed today go to the A.R.R.T. website and download the manual for radiation therapists: https://www.arrt.org/index.html?content=https://www.arrt.org/nd/ccrenewal.ndm/logon&iframe=yes
Explore the entire website. It also lists certified programs. also another good link: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos299.htm
I would only recommend this field to people who are highly motivated to take care of the sick and dying. It is not an easy job sometimes because of the politics in the clinics and the patient’s needs. But if you are inclined to do so then go for it.
