]]> I just got accepted into my local community colleges radiography program. (waited for 3 years) I’m getting a little bit afraid that after my two years of schooling that I won’t be able to find a job. I live in FL and right now the market is very flooded. There is the possibility that I could leave a year or so after graduating , but I just wanted to know for all of the radiographers out there ALREADY in the market, How comfortable and how secure is your job? Is this a good career choice? Can things possibly change within the next 2-3 years where the market will actually NEED radiographers? I asked one of my professors and he stated that the Job market for healthcare is always on a roller coaster. One year there will be to many nurses and the next year there won’t be enough radiographers. I’m just scared that after waiting for so long to do what I’m passionate about that I’ll be stuck working a job in something other than radiography because I can’t find a job. I don’t want to be a nurse so thats out of the question. Provide some insight please. Preferably X-ray techs/Radiographers/ radiology techs (so many terms)answer.

I would like to know what do I need to do, where to go, etc. to become a licensed MRI Technician, if that’s the name for that, maybe is not. Should I go to study radiology first?, how long does it take?, and what would be my chances to make a living doing that?… Is it a good choice or I’ll be in risk to be jobless anytime?… How much would it cost? (aprox).
I live In Broward Co. FL, and I don’t know what school offers this program around here, it has to be relatively close bc I wont able to relocate any time soon.

]]> I lived in Canada for four years, the health system was great. My sister-in-law has lived there three years, her biggest complaint is that she only gets a dozen mental health visits a year. (Imagine that, health coverage the includes mental health!)
I worked at a school in Canada and I was a sports coach so I went to the hospital frequently with injured kids. I was injured myself once and had to get a CAT scan. I never had to wait, I could go to any hospital I wanted.
I had a coworker who injured his eye ask me to take him to the emergency room. I thought it would be like a typical American Hospital and take hours. We were in and out in less than an hour, stitches and all. When was the last time you were in and out of an emergency room that quickly?
I house sat for a physician. We talked about there health system and he loved it. Sure, he made a slightly more modest salary than his American counterparts. But he drove a BMW, sent all his kids to private school and lived in a Victorian era home that is worth well over a million dollars so he was not hurting for money.
So what is the deal with all these horror stories? Where are they coming from?

]]> I started having an inner ear infection a week ago after I had a cold and I had a bad case of vertigo/dizzy nausea. Then I had a few more attacks for a couple of days and on the weekend I had a pretty bad one at night time and went to the ER. I explained that something was wrong with my inner ear and that I had some ringing and my doctor said I had an inner ear infection. They put me on an IV and drew blood and gave me a CAT scan and they both came back normal. I didn’t argue because I thought it was safe and I was sick.
But all I think I needed was a some anti-nausea medicine to get me through the attack.
Then I read a few days later that CAT scan uses more raidation than a normal x-ray and its like 150x as much, can give you cancer and an MRI would do the job with NO radiation!
I think this CAT scan was a totally stupid idea and they should have done a safe MRI on me and this was overkill for my symptoms. What was this doctor thinking!?!?
The symptoms are almost gone now
