Becoming an Ultrasound Tech along with the Rad Tech degree?

Hello ! I am currently attending school to be a Rad Tech. I wanted to know what is the salary increase as far as being a Rad Tech that can also do Ultrasound?

I have always loved Radiology, my mind is still not made up as far as doing Ultrasound and staying with that and RT or going on to medical school and becoming a Radiologist. Is there any RT’s that have gone on to being a Radiologist and how do you like it ? Was it hard, or would you guys say easier because of the knowledge we already have ?

Sonographers make more on avg than Rad Techs, but having both skills doesn’t necessarily mean a salary increase, since you likely only be hired to do one or the other.

Radiologists have extensive knowledge of all of the imaging modalities – x-ray, sonography, MRI, CT, Nuc Med, Mammography, PET – as well as the pathology and it’s appearance on various modalities. They also perform all kinds of procedures. So I’m sure RT would give you some foundational knowledge, but it involves so much more than just that.
