Bachelors in UltraSound Tech (Sonographers)?

Hi,

Im in community college and was wondering why come all ultra tech programs are at vocational schools except for a few. I don’t want a 2yr degree, I’m looking for a program for ultrasound that has a Bachelors Degree as the reward. I see all these online colleges. (I mean are they really any good) I see schools like everest and sanford brown. They do nothing but take your money and you never get a job.

I want something solid. I found Mizzou’s school of Diagonstic Medical Ultrasound. Are there any others that will help me to get a job in this growing field ?

I want to do gynocolgic ultrasound (Prenatal Ultrasound) This field is expected to grow by 19% in the next 7yrs pay is 29/hr or more. Salary is 60,000 or more.

Is this A good Salary to live middle class on ?
Are online colleges and vocational schools any good for getting you a job ?
What other universities offer this study with a B.A ?

Thank you for any suggestions

The reason there are so few bachelor’s degrees is because they are not necessary for this field. The only reason you would need a bachelor’s is if you plan to teach or become a dept head in the future. An Associate’s is most common and is completely sufficient for working as a Sonographer. Stay away from online colleges and trade schools – they are not well-respected in the ultrasound community, and often not accredited. For a “solid” education in ultrasound, you need to go through a CAAHEP accredited program for Diagnostic Medical Sonography: http://caahep.org/Find-An-Accredited-Program/
